It can be very difficult to get a credit if you still have none but there are still ways in which you can establish one.

Understanding what lenders are looking for is very important. If you are establishing credit for the first time, lenders will examine different factors to determine whether or not money will be lent to you. You don't need to have a credit score when you open a checking account at a bank. However, your account history can also be one factor that lenders may want to consider. If you don't have a checking account, lenders can also look into your employment history and see if you hold a steady job.

Another factor that lenders will check is your residence history. This goes just the same with your employment history. It would be best if you have a stable job and a stable residence. Likewise, a house and utilities like phone, cable or water service in your name can be helpful for first-time borrowers.

To help you establish good credit, your first option is to open and maintain a savings and checking account. Active bank accounts can prove your ability to manage money. Having a good banking relationship will also improve your chances in getting a loan or credit card. If however, you get declined in applying for an account at the bank, you may want to consider signing up for a department store card. Although these types of cards offer a great value at first, but charge you with higher interest rates afterwards, having one and being able to use it accordingly can help you obtain good credit. Keep in mind that if you do decide to apply for one, manage it well and maintain a good payment history.

If you are still not successful with the bank and the department stores, try other credit card companies. If all of those fails, try applying for a secured credit. Secured credit means that an asset is linked to the account that the lender can take if you fail to make payments. Secured loans on the other hand involves a mortgage or an auto loan. Likewise, a secured credit card will need a deposit in the bank linked to the card. If you deposit a $500, you can charge up to $500. In all of these, make sure that what you are applying for is reported to the credit bureaus. Otherwise, you will never be able to establish good credit.

Establishing credit is only the first time. Maintaining a good credit history will take time. And once you have finally established credit, do everything right to be able to maintain it.

(Wesley Gordon is a 42-year old Online Marketing Director for a Payment Processing Industry.
